Providence Hospital “Breast” Friends
Volunteer Breast Cancer survivor support group
Providence Hospital “Breast” Friends Volunteer Breast Cancer survivor support group started in 2008. Their mission is to offer support to breast cancer patients receiving treatment at Providence Hospital. The group is composed of Breast Cancer Survivors and hospital staff dedicated to this mission. The group offers support by volunteering at Providence Breast Center and providing education and a physical presence to those going through treatment. They also assist with survivor events at the hospital and the community at large. They provide community outreach and assist with fund-raising efforts.
The group meets on the Second Friday of each month. The Breast Cancer Outreach Fund was established in 2009. This fund provides financial assistance for breast cancer patients receiving care at Providence Hospital. An application process is in place for disbursement of funds. Patient assistance can be related to treatment costs, personal living expenses or other assistance as deemed appropriate by the Breast Cancer Outreach Fund Committee. The committee reports quarterly to “Breast” Friends. Referrals for financial assistance can be made by the care coordinator, physician, staff, social worker or others involved in patient’s care.
Fund raisers to date have included WABB Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Request-A-Thon started in October 2009 and Festival2Cure Annual Fund Raiser held each year in April.
