“No woman looks forward to an annual mammogram. However, I never dread my mammogram because I know it will be a quick, smooth, and even pleasant experience. The staff makes the whole process quick and easy. I was guided as to where to change; another person escorted me to the mammography room then back to the waiting room. I was asked to come back due to an irregularity on the first exam. Everything was handled very tactfully and with sincere kindness. I’ve always been impressed with this area of Providence Hospital. The entire staff should be proud of a straight “A” report”- N Carroll Mobile, Al.

The statistics are sobering: one in eight women will develop breast cancer.

While breast cancer cannot be prevented, its effects can be greatly reduced through early detection.

Annual mammograms are essential for all women age 40 or better. The Breast Center at Providence will work with you and your physician so that getting your annual mammogram is as easy as possible. Your doctor can schedule your mammogram for you, or, if you prefer, you can call us directly at (251)-633-1196 to schedule this important screening procedure.

Providence was one of the first hospitals in Mobile to routinely use ImageCheckerTM computer-assisted diagnostic technology for all screening mammograms. ImageChecker functions as a "spell-checker" for mammograms. X-ray pictures are converted to digital images and electronically scanned for possible areas of abnormality. These are highlighted for further medical review. Research has shown that ImageChecker can result in fewer false-negative readings and significantly earlier detection of breast cancers—and earlier detection means better outcomes.

In addition to screening mammography, the Breast Center at Providence offers diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, stereotactic needle biopsy and ultrasound-guided biopsy. We are also committed to education and community outreach, through educational programs and support of breast cancer research organizations.
